The News That's Not

The News That's Not

A Poem by Craig Rozniecki

The News That’s Not

At all hours of the day,
We make our presence known,
Near or far,
At work or at home,

From the time you awake,
Until the time you fall asleep,
During the time in-between,
Never taking a break,

All time slots must be filled,
Regardless of the relevance,
Mouths must be gabbing,
Regardless of the content,

Loud voices are heard,
To garner viewers’ attention,
Treating opinions as fact,
No time for actual journalism,

Political gaffes shall be a focal point,
Car chases shown aplenty,
Celebrity scandals and deaths,
Random stories which mean nothing,

Partisan to our base,
Credibility lacking,
Without a care for the truth,
Only about our ratings.
