The Shadow

The Shadow

A Poem by Craig Rozniecki

The Shadow

One foot in front of the other,
Speed continually increasing,
Reluctant to look back,
Indifferent to pushing and shoving,

With no definite destination,
You continue to run,
No care about fatigue,
No worry of dehydration,

Not knowing when to stop,
If the end is near,
Not knowing if you should go back,
To conquer that fear,

Others watch and shake their heads,
Having been there before,
Until they learned there was no finish,
It did them no good,

Running at full speed,
The shadow always follows,
Until you finally have to stop,
And deal with life’s problems,

To outrun the shadow,
Is to outrun life,
To escape reality,
Until you finally wake up.

About
I'll be honest (like this is something new for me...), I'm not sure what to write here. It's not a singles ads, so even though I like long walks on the beach, I don't see much point in mentioning that.. more..
