The Thirst (a poem from my book, Seasons Come, People Grow)A Poem by Craig Rozniecki
The Thirst
Why’s the world round? What’s wrong with your teeth? Why’s the sky blue? Hey mommy, what is this? Why do I have to sit next to her? Why did I get grounded? Why do I have to eat this? Why do I have to go to school? What’s having a girlfriend like? Can I try out for the football team? What’s the birds and the bees? Why am I here? What’s It like to be in love? Want to meet my prom date? Where should I go for college? Can I go to a party? When are you coming down? Can you do my laundry? Is dad coming too? Can I borrow some money? Why must people ask so many questions? Why can’t we just be quiet and not mutter a word? Why have I lost the thirst for knowledge? Why must I grow up to equal a child’s thirst? It's not a singles ads, so even though I like long walks on the beach, I don't see much point in mentioning that.. more..Writing
