"Fantasyland" (a poem from my book, Seasons Come, People Grow)

A Poem by Craig Rozniecki

Fantasyland

Languages created through the years,
Constructing lines to form letters,
Sounds connected to each one,
Scrambling them all up and calling them our own,

Who came up with what?
How did it come to be?
Why did they get to decide?
Who decided on this authority?

Born into a made-up world,
Taking for granted that all is real and true,
Living in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory,
Giving in to life's temptations for pleasure and personal use,

The world was here long ago,
Inhabitants making it up as they go,
Being born and never having a clue why things are,
Having to accept everything as just so,

Here lies ingenuity,
Here lies the ignorance of man,
Here we all are waiting and watching,
Welcome to the fantasyland.

About
I'll be honest (like this is something new for me...), I'm not sure what to write here. It's not a singles ads, so even though I like long walks on the beach, I don't see much point in mentioning that.. more..
