Foreign FamiliarA Poem by BernadetteShort poem I wrote over the summer about feeling a familiar place for the first time.A foreign world in a familiar place, right by my side, and kissing my face. The resplendent light of a faraway star, I try to find, you couldn't be that far. As water flows through curbs of stone It creeps in cracks and seeps through bone Of rock and earth, a dent in time An oasis of summer that I get to call mine. Left out too long and bound to change Your fate is sealed beyond the urban range. Baked in the sun or washed out by the rain, Nothing stays in this altering terrain. I can't remember when we last met, A lot can change in a season I bet. And now I hardly believe that it's you Slipped from my mind you used to be blue. I try to find, you couldn't be that far, Even with the faded light of a faraway star It happens every year I can always recall, How in my backyard, I lose my favorite ball.
