You Died Today (Texting & Driving)

Don't text and drive...please.

You died today 

Texting "hey" 

You crashed your car 

Texting "where r" 

You suffer injuries 

Texting "meet me" 

You suffer memory loss 

Texting "we lost" 

You looked down to read 

And In front of you, you didn't see, 

A bicycle and a guy, 

The man you made die. 

You typed on your keyboard, 

Just one word, "sure" 

That was the last text you sent. 

Cause in a second you were dead. 

You looked away and laughed 

And sent a message back. 

Then you flipped your car, 

Now your legs a metal bar. 

You rode as a passenger, 

And flew head first, 

Into the windshield 

Youll never heal. 

You died today, 

By simply saying "hey"

Don't text while drive...don't be that stupid...know your limits. Stay alive. It can wait.

I totally disagree with "Poison Ivy" Poetry is about anything you want it to be, it's not for anyone else to day what you can and can't right about. How utterly rude. Great job and great message in this POEM. :)

its more of a ''dont text and drive'' advert or pamphlet .
again, i mean no offense.
but when it comes to poetry, the point of it has always been to search into the deepest parts of your soul, to let out the emotions you have no other way of expressing. poetry is for outcasts and the tortured souls of artists yearning to understand themselves and the world around them. texting and driving as important as a subject as it is..... its really not creative or artistic in any way, shape or form. im not saying your a bad writer, im saying i think you need to do a little more in depth searching to really find the poet within yourself instead of using such a bland topic.

And I think that's kind of rude, and honestly, I do take offense to that. Plus, poetry isnt JUST about raw emotions. Poems can be written about anything. Hell there is a famous poem written about a hatred of homework. Plus this is a good topic, not a "bland" topic. Obviously you really don't understand how many people died from texting and driving. I know someone who has. It's a sad topic, and according to every other single person, I expressed it very well.

you expressed it very clearly, thats not the issue. the issue simply lies in the fact that its does not express emotion in it. even if you were to write about this, you could open yourself up more and really make the reader feel your passion. your right to say that poetry can be written about almost anything, but it all depends on HOW it is expressed.
without passion and feeling, the writing is simply a statement, not a poem. perhaps there was a poem about homework (though i have never seen one), but if it became famous, im sure that there was enough emotion in it to make the reader, laugh, or be frustrated, or even feel sad. whatever the writers objective with it was.
if something is to be counted as a poem, some emotion must be obtained from it, or else the reader has no reason to read it.
and as for the offense you have taken, im really not sure why you would. because as far as im aware, posting your writings online for a public domain is automatically saying that you are looking for honest critiques of your work. not just people who are going to say "cool" and "wonderful poem" just to please you.
if anyone had any critiques on my own work i would want them to be honest with me on methods to improve, in their opinion, even if i did not agree with them.

Well I felt sad while reading my own work...so I don't know what the hell you were reading. And no, I'm glad your critiquing it, but i just still dont understand. In my mind it shows emotion very clearly. In my mind, it's OBVIOUSLY a poem. I appreciate you take the time to say what you think. I just don't UNDERSTAND.

Well, if your looking for others opinions on your work, than it doesn't really matter how it made you feel, if no one else felt it. I understand how my advice can complex to some, but give it time, meditate on it, just let it sink in then, and then give poetry another shot. you know what they say, if at first you don't succeed try try again.

perhaps you should read some other writers work for new fresh inspiration.

This is so true. Technology has suddenly turned everybody into zombies causing more accidents and death more than anything. It's usually total stupidity to be texting or using phones while on wheels...great message. Lovely.

Oh my god this is so sad! I compeletly agree with you though, i have had two minor car accidents (neither were my fault) and whenever i see anyone on their phone behind the wheel i get so angry! Great poem

Thank you. And yea, it makes me angry too. My brother drove into a ditch, and hydroplaned one time cause he was texting.
