Modern Nazism

Modern Nazism

A Poem by Stephanie Snyder
"

Written in my German history discussion. The skies in Binghamton were overly gray, but the weather was warm and invoked nostalgia.

"

Staring into blue-gray skies,
German history ringing in my ears;
Talk of Hitler, Nazis, Putsch.
Beer hall gatherings influencing movements
Of history that will leave scars
As deep as the trenches of the Great War.

Blue-gray skies lord over the Broome.
Darkness is creeping into the folds of a university.
The corners of a broken classroom
Are home to the absence of light.
This lack of light is penetrating, devestating;
World War I revisited in time.

Today this darkness feels like home,
These discussions of war the bed in which I sleep.
There is a white band of dim light rushing along the horizon
And giving me hope of light tomorrow, but today
There is only darkness,
And the light of tomorrow is a fire in progress:
Devouring us, devouring our friends,
And burning the Reichstag of our dreams.

I like this, intermingled with history and thoughts, like a weave thru the past to the present! :D
