Dear: Texas

Dear: Texas

A Chapter by ThePastelPrince

A letter to my home state.

Dear Texas,
aka heatwaves; aka horse flies; aka the place I could not wait to leave. I remember complaining about you just like every other Texas born citizen. I hated the constant smell of s**t and the way that the smoke from the food trucks burned my eyes. But now that we've parted I cant help but look back on all of the good times we had. All of the windy winter days and the humid summer nights. Everything here in Washington combined doesnt compare to you. It will never have the same feeling as walking into an old, nearly boarded up bakery and ordering freshly baked empanadas, or walking downtown San Antonio and getting pulled into the festivities of fiesta. Sadly, you're in my past, but I dont regret leaving. You were a huge chapter in my life and gave me great inspiration for many years. But Ive grown weary of writing of the same sunset over the plains; the same cracked streets that blistered our small brown feet; the same everyday things that no longer seem magical. Now its time to write about newer things; snowy mountain tops and and evergreen trees; crisp air and constant light. Im moving on. I may come back some day and once I do ill fall in love all over again.
With love, hate, and overdue emotions,
Your Forever Admirer

As someone who left Texas for 14 years and is now back, I can assure you you'll probably miss the food the most. I hope you can find ways to enjoy your new surroundings and especially the bountiful greenery of Washington. Texas pales in comparison to it's beauty.
