Pied Piper

Pied Piper

A Poem by John Holmes
"

Fate and the devil. twisted lines and scattered stars. Life. people you me us. that is all.

"

Women call me a man

bards a poet

wise men a gentleman

the lonely call me company

and the scared courage

light calls me dark

i call her white

the wind whispers my name

but you all hear it different

like the tune of the pied piper

i’m different for everyone

For every shadow you see

theirs a door to be opened

a path to be followed

a light to extinguish

and a dream to be made

For what is life but sweet honey and extravagance

For what is company

when hell is are destination

and Heavens hope are folly

For what are you, but simple men and women

dancing to the pied pipers tune

my whispers in your ear

add to the tune as do a choir

to the chorus of the Dead

envy

hate

love

ambition

pride

these are the virtues

and these are the sins

I whisper them to you

so that you may be of them

as you dance to the pied pipers tune.

I am in love with the whole thing but I really like the first stanza in-particular! I can relate on a personal level to it is the reason. I think someone below me had the right idea when they said it is very unique and probably in it's own way to each individual. The words and metaphors were magnificent and I liked how underneath you explained or gave reason... Anyways such a wonderful piece!

Not a great one for poetry - so the seduction of the piper's tune is different for everyone? I believe we all have different roles to play for others. What is dangerous is to loose yourself in the desire to be what others need you to be. The more cohesive the community the less the pressure to always conform to the needs of others. I think you meant to use the word 'our' instead of 'are' twice in verse four, Cheers, Wez

As the pied piper has the melody in the eye of the beholder, your poetry portrays that as well. I think this poem can be different to other people, but it all ties into the same thing. I think its really special thing. Good work.
