Pied Piper

Pied Piper

A Poem by John Holmes
"

Fate and the devil. twisted lines and scattered stars. Life. people you me us. that is all.

"

Women call me a man

bards a poet

wise men a gentleman

the lonely call me company

and the scared courage

light calls me dark

i call her white

the wind whispers my name

but you all hear it different

like the tune of the pied piper

i’m different for everyone

For every shadow you see

theirs a door to be opened

a path to be followed

a light to extinguish

and a dream to be made

For what is life but sweet honey and extravagance

For what is company

when hell is are destination

and Heavens hope are folly

For what are you, but simple men and women

dancing to the pied pipers tune

my whispers in your ear

add to the tune as do a choir

to the chorus of the Dead

envy

hate

love

ambition

pride

these are the virtues

and these are the sins

I whisper them to you

so that you may be of them

as you dance to the pied pipers tune.

I am in love with the whole thing but I really like the first stanza in-particular! I can relate on a personal level to it is the reason. I think someone below me had the right idea when they said it is very unique and probably in it's own way to each individual. The words and metaphors were magnificent and I liked how underneath you explained or gave reason... Anyways such a wonderful piece!

Yep, this is definitely a great poem. ^.^ I particularly enjoyed this line: "For what is life but sweet honey and extravagance" because it feels so fae to me, but really everything from that line down made my chest ache with unnamed emotion. Great great great.

These words are beautiful :) I think everyone can relate to this poem in some way or another for you talk of such strong emotions; love and hate. You also write very powerfully about how everything in life is subjective, I think this is quite unique. I love it!

I really enjoyed this! I especially enjoyed the first paragraph. However in the third paragraph, I think you mean "There's" instead of "Theirs."

Wow J, you continue to amaze me with the emotional depth of your poems. This poem was so well thought out from the metaphors you chose to your choice of words. This is by far my new favorite of yours. Because I could relate to the first stanza those words stood out to me the most. I believe this is one of those poems that each reader will take away a different interpretation and that is the beauty of poetry.

For every shadow you see
theirs a door to be opened
a path to be followed
a light to extinguish
and a dream to be made

This stanza offers so much hope. Love it! Such a wonderful piece, you should be very proud of the growth your showing my friend. 100/100

A microcasm of the world written on the page with stark clarity and emotional depth. This is probably my favorite piece of yours, not just in concept, but also in style and form. Great tempo and rythm, and intriguing metaphorical ideas. Very well done, my friend.
