Trick or TreatA Poem by TheOtherHello kid, said the man. Happy Halloween! You've came back!
No man, replied he. You are mistaken, I am not a kid. Year after year I have built with passion my own demise, carrying through my guise. I've wear it as a heavy collar, a costume adorned with gold and dollar. With pride and sacrifice I've made my way. The way a child reads a play.
And year after year you stood here Smiling and winking. Feasting and drinking. A blazing moment I would call you. With a face of a stranger I knew well. Offering me candy, you never intented sharing. Teaching me how to ponder in melancholy.
Trick or Treat I was ten and you said to me: You are too late. I've given it all. Even though I could see the bags right next to you so full of them and this world promising lies.
And year after year I came back. The first to knock your door. To Trick or Treat you, I was late. No matter what, it did not matter to you. And here I am now fully grown. A mere adult with a miserable life. All that were promised that I would be. I came to ask you why.
The man was merry, he laughed and drank some more. You are too late he said, the answer's gone.
'Tis the man who's gone, said I as he slipped into the depths of night... He slammed the door goodbye.
