Verses in Loneliness

Verses in Loneliness

A Poem by Nicola

Awaken I, and through the looking-glass to a world

Unlike my own, where I am so alone -

How can I feel so warm, when the sun’s kiss is of ice?

How am I satisfied, when all I do is starve?

How am I not alone, when no-one else is here?

All I know is black, and the demons in my head

Are always near.

Where in the world am I? I own no aim or goal… Who are you

To cry, when you see me through opaque eyes? Be not pitiful, prim

Or prick me with your thorns, stab with demon’s horns;

Venomous rose.

The darkness all around, and in your eyes I see

All the secret hate you hold for me, or like, or all indifference

I cannot tell -

My flaws in your reflection, mine or yours, I cannot tell.

This looking-glass lonely world is my cell,

You walk away from me as silently, I yell.
