he closes his eyes when he sings
because he becomes his own ghost and the world separates into a life on the other side of every window i know how it feels to disappear with everyone watching on the waves of his voice is where i lose the years, find myself as a child in the backseat watching objects close to the horizon. the guardrail is a silver ribbon racing our ‘72 Polaris while the Loblollies on the skyline barely drift by. when my eyes are locked on a clump of weed on the embankment they are still and slingshot me past them at the age of eight i close my eyes and die in another life. death enters and leaves like a young, but passive lover as the universe of sound and time whips by behind the hum of the highway and our V6. the moon is out in the afternoon following ever careful watching i slip some pocket change into the slots of the sound holes and listen to the coins restlessly buzz on the speakers, in front of an acoustic guitar dancing on an invisible frequency, binding me to this life and reminding me, that though i don't know why yet, i am still alive © 2018 m.s.earlyFeatured Review
