winter's disguise

winter's disguise

A Poem by m.s.early

perched postures on the light line

frightened by the shutting door

caught by the wind just before autumn

the temperature dropping nicely

unlike the summer before

we shrank together

in front of the window unit

humming its mechanical one-note-song

but now the leaves are paling

to the light green pleasant tone of your eyes

and an easy breeze

barely moving the leaves

uncovers the chill of winter’s disguise

very smooth writing. thought provoking and contemplative. winter does have a way of sneaking up on us like the changes in relationships.

You are very kind. Thank you so much
Winter has always been tricky! I miss the love of sundays...

this reminds me of how breezy some relationships can be at first...but then there is that unexpected, early chill...and we don't shrink together as well as we used to...and that window unit hums an unnerving hum that is off key.
