sunrise in a new town

sunrise in a new town

A Poem by m.s.early

From the well red comfy cushions
From the sofa my sister gave me
When I was drunk and poor and craving sanity
I watch this town give birth to a new day
Between its humming power lines

Meanwhile, the pancakes are browning nicely
And the school bus lights are ticking
In front of the neighbor's yard

I remember when I was crazy
White knuckling through every hallucination
Before I moved to this town
With humming power-lines
With soft sweet sunrise kisses
With the laughter of children
Scrambling onto school buses
Behind its ticking lights
On beautiful pink and azure mornings
That they often take for granted

Oh, Xavier...sunrises scream new beginning, fresh start, a brand new day. I had a professor, that would say at the beginning of ever semester, "Its a brand new semseter. Time to re-invent yourself, re-new your commitment to doing the right thing. An opportunity to start over." I never forgot that. Brilliant writing,my friend. I've missed your philosophical poetic phrases so much. Glad to see you here again.

Wow, this is full of a variety of different things all pieced together to make an outstanding poem. I really like this.

There is so much to this piece, recognition of a troubled past, gratefulness for a better today, still with a nostalgic feel.
