sunrise in a new townA Poem by m.s.earlyFrom the well red comfy cushions From the sofa my sister gave me When I was drunk and poor and craving sanity I watch this town give birth to a new day Between its humming power lines Meanwhile, the pancakes are browning nicely And the school bus lights are ticking In front of the neighbor's yard I remember when I was crazy White knuckling through every hallucination Before I moved to this town With humming power-lines With soft sweet sunrise kisses With the laughter of children Scrambling onto school buses Behind its ticking lights On beautiful pink and azure mornings That they often take for granted
