pop a cork

pop a cork

A Poem by m.s.early

Pop a cork and knock it off
The monkey’s on the table
A penny earned, a dollar burned
Happy and unstable
When in doubt we’ll laugh it off
And toss it out the window
Light a smoke, wheeze and choke
And make an innuendo
Smack her butt and blow it off
And start it up again
Scream and shout and throw me out
What’s a joke between good friends

The Bugs Bunny episode "The Hillbilly Hare"
comes to mind here! I can just see Bugs Bunny
on the fiddle singing this rollicking song while
the other characters act it out.

VERY different and VERY good indeed!

'A penny earned, a dollar burned'...love that line, it sounds very much how I feel at the end of the month when all the bills are due...great command of the meter and rhyme scheme...the flow works well with the wry humour too...three great stanzas, all with cool imagery...great piece x.

Well, didn't THAT make me smile? A rhythmic piece of silly here, Xavier, very much enjoyed!
