the galleries of our minds

the galleries of our minds

A Poem by m.s.early

Then she asked, "Do you really want to know?"
Know...
And in the stillness of that moment I thought the word aloud
Know...
Considering the fallacy of reality,
I internalized the conception of existence;
It's an image in my mind.

When she sees  me, she turns her lovely eyes my way,
And I give myself to her completely once they meet,
But she only retains what she thinks she sees,
What she thinks she knows.

"Do you really want to know?" She asked.
She was about to divulge,
Deliver herself in words,
To enlighten me on the innerness of her "being".

The knowledge was ever present
I would only be aware of my perception
The context of her diction
In what it would describe,
And herself would exist in two pictures
hung in the galleries of our minds.

I often do not interpret poems to anyone but me, feeling I may be "off" from what the author actually intended. For me, this poem is about the startling fact that even though someone tells us their perception of something, we still each have our own mental image of said emotion/thing/event. A thoughtful write rich in imagery and intrigue as always.

This is wonderful. I like poetry that seems like a story, and you're good at writing poetry like that. Great job!

Thank you Paddy :)
You have an uncanny ability to mix poetry and storytelling, not always comfortable bedfellows. The last stanza is a knockout. Well done X :)
