A Poem by m.s.early

Along I think this sometimes:
I will travel a while longer with you;
I have not yet tired of your impassioned soliloquies
nor your quaint meanderings on love or old friends.
"Yes love, it is true I'm not always listening.
It's just how you describe me...
as if in love with a poet
too kind to compete for air time."
Looking ahead into the dampening line,
between your space and ours...
isn't it better I should replace a verse
with something not spoken until later,
perhaps at a time when we are resting
just along a scenic view,
or under the shade of our own canopy?
"No, don't say that, just because I am quiet
doesn't mean I'm not listening.
Perhaps my coffee wasn't hot enough
or the berries have lost their flavor
and the moment of those thought conceptions
have brought me to a place where
I might stretch my brain for little
and try to remember it for a poem."
"Yes dear, there is much I love about the way
your voice softens when the moon is low
and the evening brings us closer,
but for now my backpack is weighing
and it's time to walk and I'd like to think."
And though I hear it in my head,
I would never remind you that I am here for the walk
and your company but enhances.

Xavier, this is perfection. A classic circumstance where vocal women demand attention, and are insecure if they don't get regular verbal responses....yet the men are the strong, silent types that don't always want or need to vocalize responses. The yin and the yang of our diverse species, I'm afraid. Beautifully written as always. It is soft, reflective, sentimental and full of love. Beautiful.

your welcome
A great reflection on relationships, Xavier. The conversational tone enhances the effect. It is a mercy I do not always know what's going on in my beloved's mind. A much enjoyed writing from you.

You most welcome, take care
So much love, so much unsaid, thoughts bouncing around in your head don't always make it to the vocal cords. Invariably, if memory serves, the thoughts get professed on paper, You cant read my mind but if you want to, you can read my heart...............

You are welcome X:)
Ouch. There is a sting in the last 2 lines.
Honesty is a virtue but sometimes hurts
a bit. At least the narrator just thinks it
and doesn't say it to her.

Wow. "Really" to the fifth power? Thank you so much :)
I like the way this spreads into affection and life. I think that it has a real honesty in it. I feel like your answering questions ,I as a woman would ask and want the answers to. Communication is the key both in life and art. Great Job!
