perpetuityA Poem by m.s.early------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Below is a link to information about the constellation that inspired this poem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- perpetuity While considering a name, stepping out into the cool of an evening, Aristotle ponders the fate of Ptolemy. Off in the realm of his eyes, locks of hair are still auburn amid indigo backdrop skies. He sips a coffee, crushes a cigarette, and checks his email while deliberating the integrity of priests. Wonders, 'perhaps if a comet were as beautiful as her, there she would stay... a constellation softly twinkling among the likes of Leo the lion and Virgo the virgin.' He searches through his inbox to find an old letter Berenices wrote insisting that love would last beyond the war, and thus her locks are so dimly lit . It spoke of love in gaping infinity a deal made with a god, a returning hero, and a war that allowed them bloom. Tapping at the keys, a letter emerges and another cigarette finds his lips. Aristotle is writing history under a street light on a Dell tablet he purchased on E-Bay to last in eternal fashion.
