above all else

above all else

A Poem by m.s.early

Do not close your eyes when the dogs
bare their gnarly teeth.
Do not smile shyly when
fire hoses are used to press bodies
unwillingly to the ground.
Do not be alarmed at that irony.

Do not stare at nothing when you walk.
Do not be passive.

They lit a cross
in a white man's yard
for not being passive -
do not be alarmed at that irony.

They will see your posture
and evaluate your confidence
and if it is found you will sense it.

Intimidation is an ugly snarl;
it sparks defense mechanisms
and wields a survival knife.

If they ensnare you,
do not show fear
as you offer them your throat
to slice.

Should your blood spill,
it will flow in rivers of generations,
and should you come thru unscathed,
your testimony will walk before you.

Above all else, son,
when you grow up
be something that matters.

We should open our eyes and acknowledge the harsh realities of life instead of burying our heads in the sand in the hopes that we will not be noticed.

Indeed Vidya. Complacency and disregard are dangerous tools in the hands of the unwilling.

Very wise words my friend and indeed very true :P (haha)
life is hard...it would pointless if it were easy. This one hit me in the pit of my stomach. It's thick with view and knowledge. Very intense write.

(: thank you queenie. thank you very much :)
X, this is so poignant and in your face real. Indeed, do not show fear...this hate is everywhere, they come at you from all sides, slinging words and arrows...often in poetic form...show no fear. Eventually they will fall on their own knives.

Be something that matters...I can ceratinly see in your poetry that you have taken that advice to heart. Very cool my friend.

(: You're one of my favorites too Frieda. (hugs) :)
this reminds me of cat stevens' song "father and son"

"how can i try to explain, when i do he turns away"

like the father just expects the son to learn on his own...facing the dog...been there done that...have to be fearless...and stand strong....but don't approach him...just be patient...

i like the analogy here...well done. be confident...stand up for what you believe in...like the white man with the cross in his yard...and that is such a powerful few lines.

I am very appreciative of your reviews Jacob. Thank you so much.
A very powerful write. I admire a man who has the guts to stand by his principles!

"Do not stare at nothing when you walk.
Do not be passive."

Unfortunately, in today's world a person may lie dying in the streets but the world just passes him by.

"Should your blood spill,

it will flow in rivers of generations,

and should you come thru unscathed,

your testimony will walk before you"

This writing is all about the courage of conviction. You have it and you have shared it greatly.

Thank you for saying so, Gracey :)
Solid, powerful social consciousness/conscience piece! It could be a commentary on both the NWO, and the old world order as well. Excellent.
