Just Off The PathA Poem by The Message
It was just off the path,
the daily track I walk, where I heard emanate a squawk. Well, it had qualities of a yelp, rather, and I turned to see who needed help, as avians often do. But this bird had four and not two and those eyes met my own, surrounded naught by what flying has shown to be desired, and shouted sorrow true. He glanced away quickly, turning towards the ground where, vertical and taunting dear gravity, he resumed his cries there. Only I find it likely that she was not a male and, having misplaced the young beside my trail, had need find them, those or it, stat. So sadly I walked away, though I shed not a tear today, and merely recount what I heard, saw, and speculated upon, just off the path. © 2010 The Message |
