Rules

Rules

A Poem by t.m.

Beware the world and the things that it holds,
For the hurt isn't always worth it
And people are never perfect.
As you grow you learn it's your job to keep yourself safe
And that you can't always achieve gold.
The walls you build can be conquered
So make sure that your heart is prepared.
And know that you are not heard
By the people that you wish would listen.
In turn, you must close your mouth
And open your ears for all of the things
That they want you to hear.
They'll ask the questions that you already
Have the answer sheet to.
You'll be told how and who to love
And when you can love them.
When you break the rules or climb the walls
Out of society, know that you may be happy,
But that it will be short lived,
Because they are not.
They've spent good time reminding you
To follow the rules.
Like humans aren't supposed to do
Anything they want to.
