The Lights Go Out In The City BelowA Poem by t.m.It's a working title. Bear with me.Their mouths are moving but I can't hear the words they're saying.
(I know you see me, but after all this time I've finally learned the difference between fantasy and reality.)
I'll learn to say everything without saying anything. I'll master my art.
(We aren't so different. But I'll stay silent so you can hear the voice of the crowd.)
I'll stare at the wall and then we'll trade off again. I watch, momentarily, as you flip through the pages of that book, and I can't help but wonder if you have found the meaning of life in there yet.
(Look at all these people. Why are they here? They don't even care. They're all a million miles away.)
But you and I, we can't stay still, for the world is always moving. I don't think either of us want to get left behind. But if I could, I would ask if you'd like to stand with me, And watch the world beneath our feet.
(Oh, what a mess this is.) © 2013 t.m.Author's Note
