What is Beauty?

Some say beauty is only skin deep

And others say it comes from within

A trait that so many go out of their way to keep

Replacing themselves with artificial skin

 

Does beauty really matter all that much,

Or is it simply pleasing to the eye?

It's also possible that beauty is a crutch

For the insecure who are trying to reach high

 

Would you define beauty for me, please?

I think everyone has a different view

Is it something for you to look at and tease,

Or is it a quality within a kind person, of which there are very few?

 

I think everyone possesses some sort of beauty

Because everybody is beautiful in their own special way

And I believe that it is everyone's duty

To make atleast one person feel exceptional one day

 

When someone says "beauty", I think of an ocean wave

But there are others who take this word for granted

I commend the ones who show they appreciate it, they are quite brave

You must understand this: Beauty is something that cannot be implanted

Deep and thoughtful. Possibly better shown in prose? It reads much like prose. As the reader, I respond to the questions you ask, which reach beyond the poem. There are a few statements here that maybe reach too far, which is why I suggest prose. It leaves a little more room. I love the idea you entertain. It makes me consider a world without mirrors, where all we see is others. Beauty is something found and nurtured from within. You express that well. Implanted seems not to fit to well, but the word itself is perfect... hhmm. I love the line about beauty being a crutch. Nice imagery. Go with moments like that within the poem. Experiment. You have something worth polishing here. Expound on it. :)
