"What?" Ryan asked, confused. What Kelsey had said wasn't registering in his mind, yet. It took her a minute to respond. She wasn't sure what to say, or how to say it.
"Ryan, I was there," Kelsey confessed, saying it out loud made her wince.
"What the heck do you mean, you were there?" Ryan's voice was louder this time, and there was a hint of anger in it. He removed his hand from her shoulder, and sat down in the patio chair across from her.
Kelsey raised a trembling finger to her lips, signaling him to not be so loud.
"Tell me," he insisted, leaning closer to her. His voice was smoother this time, and quieter.
She took a deep, shakey breath, and told him everything. From the first scream to the part where she started to run. "And then I looked back, and there was someone coming out of the house. Ryan, I know it was Drew."
His face fell, and he leaned back in his chair. He ran a hand through his curls, contemplating what she had just told him. "Are you sure it was him. I mean, it was nighttime, right? It was dark," he spouted out reasons for it to not be him. Kelsey wasn't surprised that he would doubt it. Even she doubted it sometimes, although she knew for sure it was him.
She shook her head. "It was him for sure," she replied.
"You have to tell, Kels. You can't keep that a secret."
Kelsey's eyes widened. He didn't understand. Drew would hurt her for sure. "No! I can't. If Drew finds out that I told it's over. He won't let me get away with it. Please, Ryan, you can't tell. Promise me you won't tell," she begged.
He sighed, and stared at her for a second searching her eyes. "Fine. I won't tell," he gave in.
