I once had someone who used to read all my poems / stories. Now, I wonder, for whom should I write?.
In this dark room, I try to sleep… This foolish heart of mine, why does it weep? Those memories of her, why don’t they fade? What were the mistakes, I should never have made?
Her pretty face , makes my heart skip a beat.. Too stubborn to accept, it’s defeat.. Why does it fret, why does it cry? That wicked fate of mine, why cant it defy?
Feeling forlorn, I turn on the light. Wondering, now that she is gone, For whom should I write?
To put myself to rest, a pen is all I need. On this very page, with words I shall bleed..
Forcing a smile on my face, I try to put the past behind, Picking a pen from a case, I start writing out my mind.
I write of love, I write of hate. I write of destiny and fate. I write of pleasure, I write of pain. I write all this, in disdain..
Now that it’s almost dawn I slowly turn off the light. Wondering, now that she is gone. Should I ever really write?
As the Sun begins to rise I collapse on my bed… Finally, I close my eyes.. To death, I have bled…
you should always write for yourself.. not about writing to impress, it is about writing to express... yes, cliche but fitting... this has a lovely flow and pleasant rhymes.. I enjoyed this, but it did tug on my heartstrings in a bittersweet song of loss, longing, and hope... sometimes, opening those scars and allowing ourselves to bleed onto the page is the best therapy for what ails us... to be able to move others with the emotions that we pour onto the page takes great skill and you have done that here.. well done, my friend..

Loss makes for a better poet than gain. I love the woeful expressions here and the rhyming is so good.
As for writing for oneself...to a certain extent, yes, if one doesn't intend to put it out there for others to read. Otherwise, it should be the grandest, most pleasing tune one can play! After all, its your art on display. And I am not modest.

I'm glad you did. It made for a good read. You're welcome.
Is this that face you were talking about?
I get comfort from writing because it helps me purge. And I write solely for myself; if someone can relate to it then well and good. Even if they can't i don't lose anything. I think everyone here is going through the same situation, we all write for ourselves. Because t some point of time we realise that we are our own heroes, we cannot expect somebody to save us every time...and it is better to bleed ink on paper than shed blood on the floor; i personally prefer blue to red, and the smell of ink to the sour, rusty smell of blood.

This was absolutely amazing. I can relate to this (as I'm sure most can) and the rhyme scheme was superb. I love how well you're able to switch the format of rhyme scheme as well and it doesn't even mess with the flow of the piece. I'm amazed and in love with this poem. I'm sorry that you had to feel this way, and I'm here if you would like to talk about things such as these, but at the same time I can't feel too bad because it allowed you to write this beautiful piece of art. Thank you so much for sharing this, I'm going to keep looking through your work and reading more. I LOVE your writing.

I used to write for someone too. Or anything I did, it was for someone else. How exhilarating, and yet not very liberating. I learned over the years that whatever I set my mind and heart to should be for myself and to myself first. And if anyone finds any use and goodness in what I do, then that is good, but if not, it's not a loss for me. And that made me more happier and free. You are so talented, keep writing.

PS : The last line in your review made me smile.. Thanks again :)
The tension in this poem is palpable..the angst towards abandonment, trying to make sense of it all and questioning ones reasons to pursue a passion so closely motivated by the person.
I liked every bit of the journey you've put here.
This is a great piece.. Keep it up! :)
write what your heart needs to express...for you first & foremost...
it's a sense of a relief, expressing your emotions on paper, etc. than actually
trying to verbalize it to someone, and it's cathartic. i was asked this very question when
i took a writing enrichment class a few years ago. my then professor (very, very strict he was);
told me that you don't write for yourself in mind, you have to think of your audience.
i disagree...hopefully, someone will appreciate your thoughts/inspiration but ultimately,
you have to write what's true in your heart w.o worrying what you think someone wants you to write
or "how you should write, exactly like they did."
that said, this is an amazing poem...very profound imagery, brilliant dictation, and
incredible rhyming scheme.
thank you for sharing :)

I have been writing for over 40 years. I have 40 journals of story and poetry. I used the journals to leave a imprint of what I once was.
"I write of love, I write of hate.
I write of destiny and fate.
I write of pleasure, I write of pain.
I write all this, in disdain.."
I tell the young people. Take many photos and write about the good and the bad days. We will have many of both. I like the honest tone leading to the perfect ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
