One too many

One too many

A Poem by TheLostAngel

Streetlights swerve by,
blurring in your sightless eyes.
The sounds of the night, silent
compared to the roar in your mind.
The smell of drowned sorrows,
sunken into your clothes.
The bitter-sweet taste
of hateful words that set you free.
Your cold, numb hands slowly slipping,
losing control of the high speed.

Rubber screeches and smothers on the water.
Metal cracks and bends and breaks.
Time slows down, you can see frame by frame.
You slip in and out of darkness.
Slilently crawling out of the wreck
as time speeds up again over the unholy sight.

Sirens and lights through controlled chaos.
Red oil and black blood smeared
over the white stripes.
That is when you see
the sins of one too many.

Your heart stops, your eyes remain frozen.
The fading warmth of a fragile body:
a blue-eyed girl, soft skin, small hands...
Now covered by the sorrowful, white blanket.
