Education of Music

Education of Music

A Poem by Mark Daniels

I need my ears, my eyes, my hands
to feel the wood or metal
to see the magic on my page
and to hear the cords ring into tomorrow.

Oh, to not hear the instruments sing is a tragedy!
and to not see the emotion on the page would surely
be the last of me.
I live for music, and i share it with tomorrow.
because to conduct the sound of life,
like the philosopher inside the scientist sees the world like no other.

Music is my brother, my life, the reason im still alive.
If i could write in "The language of sound",
make the notes float off the page and bounce all around...
But i can only write words, sometimes i find it absurd,
not to be able to show the world my life, my story through sound.

I need not worry, because I know i'll do my part
to help the seed of music grow in my student's hearts.
and with a swift motion of my hands, and the well-trained ears on my head,
we will start the concert of life. Would you like to listen?
I know they don't sound like much, but i promise with my luck,
they'll be better than ever.

Music can do miracles. That, is why i want to teach it.
