Madre Tierra

Madre Tierra

A Poem by J.M. Santós

Madre Tierra
Cellestial biosphere of moist earth and universal current.
We suck at the teat of your nourishment with an unquenchable greed. Failing to recognize that the damage we inflict upon the one consistent mother who will care for the children we bare, will have lasting consequences.
I have lived many lives and walked many different paths upon you, and only you will ever know them all.
Only you have been consistent.
My earth, my soil, my leaves and branches..
and I will call them mine because I appreciate them.
And because people no longer marvel at the sight of your changes.
But me. I see you. I SEE you.
Beautiful.
Raw.
With rain, emotional, like tears.
At times a raging down pour, others a weeping song.
And Watching you in bloom?
You give flowers with petals delicate as silk the stregnth to sprout beyond barren soil. You are the gardener. You do the nurturing but are begging to be nurtured.. and while I can.. and while anybody can.. I will sit and watch you, regretting not the hours I spend looking past your horizons.
