An Agonizing Destiny

An Agonizing Destiny

A Poem by J.M. Santós

Making a decision
is difficult
when you have your ancestors whispering every failure it could turn into down the spine of your back..

Becoming your own woman
seems like a goal far too unattainable..
for you have welts, scars and bruises that decorate your values..

You were never supposed to understand the words "individual".. And "freedom".

Childhood was more shock than innocence..
All cries and f
ar too many lies but in a sense she understood why mom and dad called them lessons.

A nine year old girl
heart tattered - faith worn,
blew kisses and whispered wishes to the crescent moon outside her bedroom window

Now 20, 11 years later she still stays awake praying for her savior.. God, save her.

A honest story told in the poem. The lessons we learn are hard and make us realistic. Sad when we learn. Life is hard and fun is rare. I believe you must budget your time. Always leave time for fun and friends. I like how you told the story in the poem and the very strong ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Good one indeed. "heart tattered - faith worn,
blew kisses and whispered wishes to the crescent moon outside her bedroom window". Liked these lines most.
