Chapter 3. The Return of the King

Chapter 3. The Return of the King

A Chapter by Jytte
"

The new rule, the tyranny, all coming to an end, a gate which few has broken through, maybe the thoughest of all challenges.

"

“He doesn’t regret, nor does he feel pain. The real king has arrived. The god amongst man is coming, to take back what’s truly his. The dark king, the lord of darkness. His slumber is coming, his echoes will silence”

I walked through the fire, past the burning buildings, screaming peasants and fallen guards. I don’t feel remorse for these people. They kicked me out of the kingdom. They shunned me and my mother from society, left us to rot by the edge of the shield. Leaving us the first to the be taken by the darkness. I can say as much; the darkness isn’t their biggest problem.

By my side was Melody. Walking strongly, proudly. We walked to the big gate. I raised my sword. Creating a powerful light around the blade. As I hammered it onto the ground. A giant shockwave of light and air, blasted the gate apart, creating an opening. The guards on the other side were stunned by the view.

I raised my sword and pointed towards the guards in the courtyard and my animals stormed towards them, attacking every knight in their reach. One after another, the first line of knights fell. I walked through the bodies of slain knights. Walking towards the grand entrance. A dragonslayer knight opened the door from the inside. My wolves charged at him, but he blasted them away with an array of lightning and wind. I took my turn and charged at him with my sword raised and ready for a deadly blow. He parried, pushed me back and counter-attacked. I dodged his well made counter-attack without getting hit at all. We went on fighting for hours until I finally got him down.

After all the hours of blocking, dodging and attack, we’ve finally come to an answer to who’s the superior. He fell on his knees before me, bending his head towards the ground, removed his helmet and made ready for an honourable death by a mighty warrior. I went behind him and placed my sword on his neck, ready to shove it into his body, killing him in the instant.

“May your soul be forever blessed, and may you be remembered as the great warrior you died”

I pushed it into his body, killing him instantly. I watched as his soul left his body, dragged up my sword, watched his body fall to the ground and continued into the great cathedral. As I entered arrows were fired at my armour. I heard the arrows hitting my armour, but I felt no arrow.

I looked up, a balcony full of golden archers met my gaze. I drew my sword, raised it, as a light began emitting from the blade. I swung my sword, creating a shockwave storming towards the balcony. The sound of chaos as the wave hit the balcony was soothing. I watched the balcony fall apart, the archers fall to their deaths, as I walked towards the throne room.

I kicked open the royal door, expecting a king to stand before me, ready to battle. Alas, I was met by ten shaking and nervous knights. None of which were neither a match for me, nor a battle worth fighting in any way. I walked past the knights, knowing none of them even dared to touch me. As I got past them, my appearance was met by the princess. A beauty undenied, but an enemy I swore to destroy.
