Chapter Five: Little Timlin, the Character
Vesavius inhaled deeply. His pal, Dukinnidy had just taken the last hit. Dukinnidy was known for overstaying his welcome and overdoing the farm-raised marijuana. Vesavius laughed as his pal took the pipe and immediately began coughing up tears from his eyes. He began drooling and Vesavius began giggling.
Again, Mother knew what was going on, but she did not say a word. She was afraid of her son and felt that her disruption of his “recreational” uses of marijuana may string him into violent acts towards her or even little Timlin. That wasn’t true though. Vesavius would have truly probably hit his mother, but never his little Gremlin. That was the love in his heart. Timlin was everything to Vex…
Dukinnidy began discussing Tylophia’s political situation, the economy’s most recent bail-out attempt of borrowing 2.1 trillion. This is what the boys did in their spare time of being high. They sat and coughed and sipped on the lip of the bong. When they weren’t taking the hits they were complaining and laughing. An odd concoction indeed, but being under the influence of the chemically laced material that Dukinnidy provided explained any action.
“So man, have you ever thought about religion being true?” Dukinnidy proposed.
Vesavius instantly grew angered. “Really?” He paused, awaiting anything as a response but only receiving a dumbfounded glance. “No… No I haven’t. All of them are unreasonable and-” He had to pause to regain his breath. “And they are irrelevant to any proven genesis of man and other lifeforms.”
Dukinnidy giggled.
“What?” He stood, annoyed and ready to fight.
The signals were not read. “Nothing…” He continued giggling. “It’s just, you said genesis and that’s a chapter- or sumthin’- in the Christian Bible.”
“You’re a dumb f**k.”
He was immediately offended. He stood to his feet, wobbling leisurely. Before Vesavius was the representation of an oak tree whose leaves and branches shook in the calm wind. Before Vesavius could stand, Dukinnidy made the mistake of swinging at him. He fell back into the couch, immediately exiting his high state and rose back up with a rising fist. The fist struck Dukinnidy and the clatter of teeth was heard from outside of the room. Dukinnidy fell against the wall, fracturing it. Vesavius lifted him by his shirt and threw him against the door. He stepped forward only to be hit again by Vex’s angry fist. Again. And again. Vesavius unleashed all of his pent up anger on Dukinnidy.
Vex unleashed the anger he held against himself, against his mother, against his father, against any Gods that may exist, and against every girl he had sex with. All of the anger fled his being and became broken bones in a young man’s face. Dukinnidy opened the door at his best chance and ran from the house. Of course, Vesavius was not to allow him to escape so easily. He luckily snatched him by the collar of his shirt and threw him into the surprisingly solid ground. Dukinnidy quickly scrambled to his feet but was punched again.
A quick shuffle allowed escape as, miraculously, Dukinnidy somehow slipped into his vehicle and sped away with an angered Vesavius chasing him for moments. Finally, Vex realized his foolishness, but would dare not admit it to any man. He had a valid reason for attacking his friend; he just could not say. He shook his fist as if to shake the pain from his right hand. He had been assaulting Dukinnidy with heavily thrown fists. The fists ached.
Vesavius stepped inside his house, planning to lie down. Upon return, his eyes met the large cocoa brown eyes of the rudely awakened Gremlin.
“Hey bubby,” The tired youth rubbed his eyes as he strolled into the kitchen.
The gruff and agitated voice scratched an odd tone in return. “Hey little buddy,” Vesavius knelt to eye him directly.
Timlin paid him no mind, but he entered the kitchen, struggling to open the fridge, that’s handle he could barely reach. “What are you doing?” He pulled some juice from the fridge, watching his brother from the corner of his eye. Apple juice was his favorite early morning beverage and he would usually wait to assure no one was awake before attempting to sneak some with his lips ALWAYS touching the rim of the bottle.
Vesavius smirked at his darling sibling. “I think the question is: What are you doing?”
Timlin giggled as he continued his crime. He drank a bit and almost dropped the open bottle before he could reseal it.
His dinosaur pajamas deduced him as a careless youth. He was so young and so carefree. Vesavius admired that. Vesavius envied that, but he did not have any hatred in his heart for his younger brother.
Timlin’s excitement erupted all at once. “Bubby! Let’s go to the store!”
The store, Vesavius thought, his favorite. “Why?”
“I wanna buy sumfin’.”
“With what money?” His eyebrow cocked.
“I gotta dollar, I swear!”
“Hey,” Vesavius pointed a stern finger. “What did mom say about swearing?”
“But Vex, I do!” His anxiety forced him to flee to his room, where he threw himself onto his bed. He ripped apart what was left of his bed searching for that dollar. To no avail, he returned to Vesavius, his idol, pouting.
“Bubby, I swear! I swear I had a dollar. It was under my pillow before I sleeped!”
Vesavius sighed, decisively wavering upon the truth in those deep brown eyes. “I’ll tell ya what!” He snapped his fingers, rising to his feet only to reveal his wallet. He pulled out one whole dollar and knelt again. “I’ll loan you this one and whenever you find that other one… How about ya let me know?”
Timlin’s eyes lit a blaze with excitement. It was that love that Vex was skeptical about. “So you’ll drive me?”
“Of course I will, Gremlin.”
And they went to the store. They played around as always and that is why Timlin loved it when Vesavius carried him to the store rather than his own mother. Vesavius always smiled and laughed and let him hit him with foam swords; whereas, Regina would stammer about urging Timlin to hurry. Needless to say, the two young boys walked from the store with more than one dollar’s worth of items. Vesavius did not care.
The bags were stuffed into the back seat. The boys entered the vehicle. As always, Timlin forgot his seatbelt. Vesavius was waiting until they got on the road before he taught him a lesson, as always. He buckled his seatbelt, eyeing the boy whom grinned from ear to ear. He shifted the gears of the SUV and started out of the parking lot.
The dawn sun shined brightly, but Vesavius was not focused on the sunglasses.  He was more focused to the oncoming car rapidly colliding with the combination of fiberglass, steel, and glass. The shattered glass was death’s confetti in the blood that played the role of rain. The crunches folded around the sounds of crying and screeching of tires. Vesavius only heard Timlin screaming for him.
Everything stopped after another collision on Vesavius’s side. The black was broken by eyelids prying themselves open. Vesavius took note of the scent of gasoline and smoke. He looked around to a blurry world. Reality was only illegible whispers and cries.
Vesavius grumbled with a mouthful of blood saliva and two teeth. “Timlin!” He then noticed how illegible he was speaking. He spit all of the contents onto his shirt only to scream again! And again! And once more! He began crying, as every muscle moved ached severely. He forced himself from that pain to turn his head to the right. His eyes lay on a motionless child, maimed beyond recognition. The face was crumbled into itself like a cheap aluminum can, his body parts were shortened, and his limbs were, the ones still attached, folded in awkward positions.
“Oh god. Oh god… Oh dear god…” Vesavius’s eyes began to well with pain. It hurt to cry and his lungs could not take the complications but he still cried. He ululated aloud. His pain was heard from the gathering crowd and heard through the smoke by the rescue crew. He could feel burning within his eyes and an even more potent burning stirring within his chest.
