Stardust Baby

Stardust Baby

A Poem by Blue Ivory

Stardust Baby

I romanced a shadow

But I know I’m not the only one

Strange as it sounds,

He could really hold me

Better than the rest of you

I romanced an idea

And boy, did he love me!

Always glowed the shade of brilliance

Until the day he hit me

Hit me with truth

He was made of black smoke

He was what the fire-beings had discarded

He was tired of non existence

I was tired of reality

And we decided to make a baby.

Our love was greater

Than any story told before

We hoped we could fuse each other

Into a beautiful monster

He could go in and out of my body

At night, I’d breathe silver air

Sometimes, I swear, my insides were purple stardust

That’s how I knew.

We had succeeded.

We wondered what color our baby would be

Perhaps pink? Like it’s mother’s soul?

But what was it, exactly?

What sort of creature would we name it?

Was it a he or a she?

What color would it’s room be?

We  had it all worked out.

It’s room was going to be brown.

With walls of milk-cocoa bars

And a bed of chocolate ocean.

It would be the greatest thing the world had ever seen

But by then we knew already

He would be The Unseen

This new world we had started

If all went well, we’d raise a whole lot of them

They’d be better than them Angels

Then came Mr. Greed.

He dug a hole in me.

He scooped out my child.

Made a place for himself in my little body.

I must’ve been asleep

While he melted through my walls

I hadn’t noticed the difference

I just knew it felt heavier

He said he’d take up permanent residence

And so we even threw away my soul

He had to leave though

One day, and it was for his own needs

He said it would feel no different

I believed him

I let it bleed

That night when I went to sleep,

Something did feel rather strange

My insides, they were stardust

No longer purple, but sparkling and broken

Broken.

And that’s how I knew

My baby was dead.

A unique and captivating pen you possess, Shrine. I understood too well this symbolic narrative.

Well I didn't see that ending coming… shocker… I was first seine this as a person who was finding love for themselves, then it moved on to a possible romance with someone they didn't love but was enjoying the moment, till they ended up falling for them, then bam the dream came to an end.
Those twists kept the poem entertaining and real.

Oh dear.... I didn't see that ending coming. It's hard to read something so personal without tearing up. I hope you find again the joy you lost and your insides return to purple stardust

I'm very glad you liked this one!
Lots to like here, due to lack of time just a few words ; romanced as a verb is great, like Mr Greed, lots
of good words here..

I truly am without words here. This seemed like a fantasy to me with an all but sadly conclusive ending that ripped at my soul.

It's kind of like delusion, rather than fantasy actually.

Life inside an artist's head. Mixture of reality, fantasy and exaggerated emotions...
Nice read from the begining to the end, you know the art of making your words alive.

Thanks so much, really appreciate it :)
Wow Siren, I just want to leave it at that since you left me speechless here. Coming together of souls, producing lovely music together, till life and dark noise takes over their relationship...that last line is positively killer, no pun intended! Going into my favorites too sweet...
