I Like You

I Like You

A Poem by Blue Ivory

I feel I'm letting nature down
When I say I've fallen in love with you
The universe trusted me with a friend
Did it think I was mature enough to handle it?

I stand in front of the mirror
And picture your face
I say, "I don't like you"
So I don't get stuck at 3am
Thinking of you

Is it just the onlooker's opinion
Messing with my head?
Would I not be confused
If they never said a word?

Just because you said I'm worth it
I won't like you
You're a guy who's actually worth it
So I'll do you a favor and not like you

You actually make a girl like ME feel beautiful
So I know you deserve a lot better than that

I want to keep this as the unspoken truth
One that never slips out
Cuz I feel ridiculous at the mere thought
Of me confessing to you.

I'll save you the trouble of rejecting
Or even considering

It's funny. The first time I heard my cousin say
"Someday, you'll meet a guy you KNOW is right for you. You'll fall in love with him. But you'll never be able to tell him."
I laughed out loud. It was the dumbest thing I ever heard!

Now I think, I'm in trouble. My next realization,
This is a beautiful thing that's happening here.
And right now, I'd like to keep it that way:

A secret, that is.

The secret that I love you.

I always knew my day would light up at the presence of my perfect guy.

Or do I just really enjoy your company?

I'm embarrassed. So I'm sorry, but I like you.

A very positive poem of love. Like is the first and most important step of love. Good to walk slowly into love and friendship. When we rush things. Many of the best steps of life are missed. I like the kind and hopeful emotion in the outstanding poetry.
