Being Black: Black Being

Being Black: Black Being

A Poem by Sibling
"

Blackkk Power

"
They say my dark skin and curly hair
Bear the Curse of Cain.
Still, I am the image of GOD -
ITs Great Creation.
IT created me this way,
With ITs Perfect Insight -
But they enslaved me because of this,
I remain inside the Cage.
The Cage of believing in my own inferiority,
The cage of criminals, the cage of poverty.
As I broke lose from their chains,
I became a slave to my own.
A slave to vanity, a slave to gold.
I chase lavish living as opposed to wealth
In free EXISTENCE.
My life has lost its true essence -
My death is displayed by adolescents
Calling each other "n*****s"
And their sisters "b*****s".
They smile at ignorance but frown upon intellect.
In my new life, may I be reincarnated
In a world where I will not be discriminated?
May I return to a world where my dark
Skin and curly hair don't matter?
Where my counterparts come gather with me,
Until we aren't distinguished by color...
Until then, I gain power and say out loud :

I'm black - and I'm PROUD!

Slbo x Poet,

You have touched my soul with this poem. It is ironic that I'm writing a novel which deals with the lives of migrant African Americans in rural Pennsylvania, USA in the 1940 -50's post war era. Being 'White,' whatever that means, actually embarrasses me. I sickens me to know how persons of your race have been treated by 'white' people. When I traced my ancestry I was relieved to discover that no one 'owned' slaves or had dealings with the subjugation of people.

Would you give me permission to print a copy of your poem for further study? I won't publish it or give it to anyone. I need to study you work.

Thank you for your last line: 'I'm black - and I'm PROUD!'

I would like to defer my review until I've had time to do a thorough analysis of your work.

You are not inferior; if anyone is inferior it's me.

Thank you for sharing this provocative poem.

Sincerely, Cecil

trapped in belief, if only some people knew that sometimes what they believe in is mere enslaving them..

We broke free just to become slaves of our own vanity. THAT'S INSANITY. Where's the freedom in that? A perculiar bondage. I should start writing.
