Love Without Touch

Love Without Touch

A Poem by Destiny Case
"

A Love poem that isn't about love.

"

I've never really wanted to be in love.
I've never wanted my heart
to be dependent on the way that
someone else’s heart beats,
but say that I were to fall in love.
Say that you were reading this,
and you were the one,
please know that I want more than just you.

I don’t want a physical relationship.
I don’t want you to touch me.
Make me love you first for the way
that your heart beats
without me ever having to rest my hand
on your chest.
Let me find home in the way that your arms
hold the weight of your own
without ever holding me.

Kiss me with the way that you speak
about your hopes and your dreams.
Let me love you for the way
that you don't need me,
and the way that you love me
for the way that I don’t need you,
because I don’t want to need you.

Let me fall for the way that your hands
move so gently to cradle what’s been broken
without ever having to lace your fingers with mine.
I don’t want to be your heart's desire.
I don’t want to be the girl you can’t get over.

Show me that you can love me
without having to touch me,
and maybe,

I’ll call your arms home.
Show me that I can love you
without ever having to touch you,
and maybe,
I’ll know what it means to need you
in a way that I've never known.
