Texas Heart

Texas Heart

A Poem by Jed Johnson

Though our streets are flooded,
towns and cities destroyed,
we will rebuild,
lots of help has been deployed.

Harvey brought its wrath,
but Texans fight with heart,
though it will take a while,
there will be a brand new start.

From Rockport to Beaumont,
and the towns in between,
soon we'll be back on the beach,
drinking beer, wearing sunscreen.

With the sounds of hammers,
and of saws and drills,
don't worry about Texas,
be assured she will heal.

Here in Biloxi, Harvey hit you on the anniversary of Katrina. we know all too well that it was our neighbors, local and out of state that provided the most (and the best) support and assistance. Yes, you will heal, and Texans' hearts are as big as everything else you claim is in Texas! Just don't put too much faith in the government agencies, but instead look to your faith based organizations and the individual volunteers. They are not getting paid and have no stake or vested interest involved in your recovery and because of that, tend to be more forthcoming with specific needs you advise them of and without all the forms and onerous policies and procedures that are in place solely to create or keep someone's job. You are loved, and when we say we understand...we actually do. Wishing you and your community well and sending much love.
