The First of His Kind

The First of His Kind

A Poem by The Elder
"

My first political poem.

"

Our country has a president-

the very first of his kind.

Some folks believe he is heaven sent,

The rest think they're out of their mind.

This president, unlike those before,

wants to socialize our land-

to tax the rich until they're poor

feeding from the government's hand.

To control our lives from cradle to grave;

to tell us how much we can earn.

In our bank accounts how much we can save,

and what our children must learn.

His worshippers in Congress

share in his lofty ideals.

They ignore the peoples' protests,

they don't care what America feels.

They've told us it will be their way.

They listen to no other voice.

They're determined to win the day

leaving the people no choice.

I believe the full brunt of this president hasn't been felt yet. He has done nothing sinse being in office. I also believe he was picked as president because anyone was considered better then Bush at the time. His socialistic views and background are downright dangerous and this government wants to take over everything they can get their hands on. We have yet to see the consequences of this president. I liked this poem.

I thought the rhyme was good, as for the message... No offense, I thought it seemed a little naive. Based on this I would guess (correct me if I'm wrong) that you are a "Republican." The reason I make this assumption is becuase the things you are talking about in your poem have been going on for a long time in America, it isn't some new development now that Obama is in office, but conservatives tend to think that now that Obama is in office the country is fucked, even though Obama is doing the same thing as Bush. (not to say that the country is all good, but these same people were'nt complaining when Bush was president doing the same things, all of the sudden this "magical problem" appeared.) It is equally as bad that Democrats who were complaining before are now sitting back complacent like everything has changed for the better. What neither side is seeing is that the very problem is the LACK of change, nothing changes from administration to administration. Taxes may change a little here and there, but don't you think taxes have been high for the last 8 years? You say that the government doesn't hear the countries cries? Have they heard their cries for the last 8 years? The country cried out against war, so they sent more troops, made a higher defense budget, and ignored the people, and now Obama is following suit. The country creid out against anti-terrorism laws that effect our civil liberties, Bush tried to pass more, gave himself more powers, and consequentially set Obama up with not only a mess of a country, but a lot more executive powers than previous presidents have had.

I love the flow and the rhyme of this poem, as in all of you poetry. This is an important message, so eloquently penned.
