ReturnA Chapter by The Dudeman (Kenneth T)
Jared stopped when the house came into view. He barely realized the transition, not noticing the moment when he stopped walking through fog and began walking on concrete.
It was April's house. The second-to-last thing that Jared did in life was accept an invitation to a party here, and that party was happening right now. Jared smiled, imagining the look on their faces when he would walk through the door, revealing to everyone that he was not dead, but part of the greatest mystery known to man. Emily would be there too, and hers would be the greatest shock of all. With a little anxiety, Jared walked up to the door and opened it. April and three of her friends were sitting on couches in the living room, not seeming to be doing very much. They all turned their heads to look at the person who entered without knocking. Every single one shook their head or rubbed their eyes, certain that the person standing in the doorway couldn't possibly be who they thought. "...Jared?" April asked. It was Brandon who reacted first, bolting out of his seat to stand defensively on the other side of the room, certain that he had seen a ghost. Felicia let out a small shriek and then held her breath. Luke stayed silent, but kept his eyes locked on Jared. "Jared... is that you?" April asked again. Luke showed an unexpected reaction, and lit up his face with a grin. "Damn it, Jared," he joked, "I was planning on going to you funeral next week. Now what the hell am I going to do next Saturday?" Ignoring him, Jared asked everyone, "Where's Emily?" They all looked at each other. "She didn't come." April explained. "You broke her heart man." Luke said. "She's traumatized." Brandon interrupted the conversation, "How the hell are you here? You were confirmed dead! I saw it on the news!" "I came back." Jared said plainly. "You're..." April said, and then gasped. "Oh my God!" she exclaimed. "You're an Angel." Felicia said weakly. "Yeah! I personally know an Angel!" Luke cheered. "I'm going to Emily's house. I need to talk to her." Jared said, once again ignoring Luke. "Um, sure thing." April said. As Jared turned to leave, she said, "Bye...Jared." Closing the door behind him, Jared felt something at the back of his consciousness. "Emily?" he asked out loud. This must be an effect of the magic, for he was certain he could sense Emily. "She's not at home, she's..." he thought. "She's in danger!" his new sense screamed at him. Aided by magic, he bolted down the street at unnatural, letting his mind hone in on Emily's location. © 2010 The Dudeman (Kenneth T) |
