WeaponsA Chapter by The Dudeman (Kenneth T)
There was no telling when the Demons would fall, so it was best to be prepared. Helms walked over to the far wall in his study where a sword and round metal shield hung. He picked them off their rungs on the wall to look at them. They had been in his family for five generations. both his great-grandfather and grandmother had died wielding these two items. If it was his destiny to do the same: to fight defending City from Demons, he would be ready to face and accept it. The word "Protect" was engraved on both the blade of the sword and the face of the shield. "I will protect." Helms thought. "I will protect my family and my City."
An attendant led the three Angels into the vast basement of the courthouse. It was filled with rows upon rows of weapons and armor. Spears, bows, and shields stood on standing racks in the middle and armor made of steel-studded leather hung on the walls. "This is where we store all of City's military supplies. There is enough for ten thousand soldiers, and that's about how many volunteers we have." Sky, Storm, and Aurora stared in barely contained awe. They were creatures of war, and a sight like this was very impressive. "We get to choose from all this?" asked Storm. "No," said the attendant, "for you three, you get only the best." He opened up a vault in the wall and turned on the light. Inside were about a dozen sets of beautifully crafted chainmail armor. They were almost completely open at the back, clearly designed for a winged Angel. All three Angels stepped forward to inspect them. Sky picked up a shirt of chainmail. "It's so light." he said, almost to himself, admiring its perfection. "But it's as strong as steel." explained the attendant. "It's made of a complex alloy. I, myself, don't know the details but..." "Check it out!" Aurora cried, lifting up a vest adorned with ten heavy knives at the front. "I want that one!" Sky said. "But I want it too!" challenged Storm. "You can have this one." Sky returned, tossing him a long lance that was folded into sections. The attendant sighed. "Like kids in a candy store." he thought. "I'll leave you here, come up once you've got everything you want." All three Angels ignored him, engrossed with choosing their new weapons. © 2010 The Dudeman (Kenneth T) |
