Selfish Lover

Selfish Lover

A Poem by Diamond Dunbar

Before you even say a word, think about the words you're about to speak.

Before you even say a word, think about the intentions that you have and seek.

Ever try loving a person with a broken heart?

I mean so broken you don't know where to start.

As you're picking up pieces to their very heart hoping they'll give you a chance to do your part.

Allowing them to trust you and become comfortable with you.

You on took on a job that you didn't even know if you could do.

So blinded by the physical when they cried out for help you cried to.

You couldn't help 'em and you knew you didn't want to.

You knew they needed you but what's their needs got to do with you?

You embarked on love that was made for two, but you wanted love that was made for you.

What a selfish lover you turned out to be.

Imaginary feelings become obsolete when the person you're dealing becomes to clingy.

Such a shame you'd commit the same love crime that put your heart on probation for the forth time.

I couldn't love you but I didn't try. I couldn't love you but I didn't try.

What a selfish lover you turned out to be.

Sticks and stones can break some bones but selfish lovers can break you from your peace.
