Hopeless Lover

Hopeless Lover

A Poem by Diamond Dunbar

I sit and wait hopelessly.

I am well aware of how unhealthy this is.

Although my love keeps telling me, he's coming back just wait and see.

Well I've been waiting and all I've seen where the memories that you left to me.

I still remember the day you left me and how unemotional I was.

Because I won't allow you to see how you could actually get the best of me.

I waited until I was far enough that only the miles in the distance could hear my squeek.

In my chest, my heart sunk.

So overwhelmed, get this f*****g love out of me!

He doesn't love me back, and I wasn't enough.

Can someone tell me why my heart is still holding on, please?

Dying just to get a little piece, but your love is such a tease.

You won't let it down on me, you won't be who your suppose to be.

I guess you tricked me. Infatuated in your crazy, I will always be your Lady.

This little snapshot shows how so-called "love" feels for many people. You have shown us this internal struggle perfectly, complete with the games people play ("I won't allow you to see how you could actually get the best of me.") I would change the last word to "sucker" however. "Lady" is too elevated for the way this narrator is cheapening herself by acting the fool.

That's totally the point, the lady who foolishly loved what she couldn't have .

This is such a painful, haunted place to live. It is the empty wishing and wanting place, and it strips away all your joy and pleasure in living because it is completely void of love. You let us feel the ache so deeply. xo
