A Fool For Love

A Fool For Love

A Poem by thedarkrocket

A cold world getting colder, old wounds growing older

The fool pretending to be wiser, looking over his shoulder

They say love conquers all yet my mind refuses to rest

Enduring best and worst of times, delaying wounds to the chest

I feel what I feel even when life is standing still

Even when cards are harder to deal

Even when lemons refuse to peel

Yet I feel in my heart I’ve found an Ace, looks like a spade

Maybe has the taste of homemade lemonade

But the fool knows no better, heart bound by hope

To the promise of tomorrow if only to help cope

What does that day hold and what is the price to see it

If the currency is pain, I'll choose to maim my heart and free it

Fate is a temptation, somewhat of an aberration

To know the end is set gives birth to inspiration

So I aspire to comprehend the lessons placed before me

The fire rises, the fire rises, wise flames restore me

Passionate, my only wish is that my heart won’t mislead me

Its easy to give my feelings to a soul that would leave me

Believe me, I’ve seen it all, two hearts together through it all

And together risked it all, wings on fire, took the fall

Even so, i’ll soar for you with wings ablaze in the night

The light of the moon illuminates a fool’s first flight
