And He leaves

And He leaves

A Poem by Katie Flores

on and on he goes,
leaving what he has behind,
leaving a pretty wife and a son he won't see born.

his little baby boy, has the sweetest laugh,
his little worried wife, writes to him every night.

on and on he goes,
marching forward,
leaving it all behind,
leaving his mother,
his sister,
his guitars,
his games,
his friends.
his memories.

on and on he goes thinking about what he could be doing,
knowing its forever gone.
he no longer has a choice,
this is the commitment he made.

to go on and on, leaving this country behind, warring with an enemy only politics knows.
