Last VoyageA Poem by TheBumblebeeThe title says it all.We embark Churning up
the seven waters Exchanging
seven kinds of gold We’re
balancing on a table top Gliding like
the passing of salt From one dish
to another But this time
our childish manoeuvres Include real
boundaries, real adventure We burst from
thunder clouds Electricity
crackling in our hair The sails,
our wings, billowing like pillowcases We settle
upon the water Like restless
doves The sea draws
breath We feel its
moving lungs upheave Then below is
our above We’re
standing upon the unknown Cold
emptiness gaping at our feet The
inevitable ways us down like anchors Our souls are
burdens to our clay Once free, we
rise Wings gliding
like rain over curved glass Paper thin,
sifting through the air like ash Shadows and
flashes moulded something Too smooth
and undefined to be human There’s
barely an outline to distinguish our saviour It gathers us
up and takes us On the
longest voyage of all © 2013 TheBumblebeeAuthor's Note
