Last Voyage

Last Voyage

A Poem by TheBumblebee
"

The title says it all.

"

We embark

Churning up the seven waters

Exchanging seven kinds of gold

We’re balancing on a table top

Gliding like the passing of salt

From one dish to another

But this time our childish manoeuvres

Include real boundaries, real adventure

*

We burst from thunder clouds

Electricity crackling in our hair

The sails, our wings, billowing like pillowcases

We settle upon the water

Like restless doves

The sea draws breath

We feel its moving lungs upheave

Then below is our above

We’re standing upon the unknown

Cold emptiness gaping at our feet

The inevitable ways us down like anchors

Our souls are burdens to our clay

Once free, we rise

*

Wings gliding like rain over curved glass

Paper thin, sifting through the air like ash

Shadows and flashes moulded something

Too smooth and undefined to be human

There’s barely an outline to distinguish our saviour

It gathers us up and takes us

On the longest voyage of all

Author's Note

TheBumblebee
I entered this poem into a competition recently and it performed (unsurprsingly) like a total pancake. However, i'm pretty proud of the first verse, might turn it into something later...

About
I spend more time reading and less time sleeping, hardly surprising for a bookworm really. I'm a manic Shelley fan, with Lord Byron and Mr Keats following in close pursuit. Also a fan of Sade, Plato, .. more..
