Look Up

Sometimes looking up from that device, could make your life a bit better. Something good could come from it.

"
It was a crisp Autumn morning, and Jerry decided to go out for a walk that chilly morning. He put on his dull red trench coat and combed his short light brown hair. He then headed out of his home, and out onto the sidewalk. He walked down the sidewalk, passing by people texting on their phones. He stopped at a crosswalk, and waited his turn.
A woman walked across the road, headed towards Jerry. She had long black hair and bright brown eyes. She had a smile as soft as cotton. Jerry took one glimpse of her and realized his undying admiration for her. He noticed she was wearing the same brand of tench coat as he was, so as she passed by him, he started the conversation. He was very kind to her, and when she first spoke to him, it was almost as if he was talking to an elegant queen. She had such grace in her words, and the way she spoke was so passionate.
After a couple of minutes of talking, Jerry decided to take Miss Caroline out to dinner. The two had a wonderful time, and after a few weeks of hanging out and going to dinner, Jerry decided to ask her out. Caroline said yes, and they had a wonderful two years of being a couple.
Jerry finally asked her out on the most wonderful of days. They were in a beautiful blossoming garden, on a bright spring day when Jerry got down on one knee and opened that black, furry case.
Caroline was overjoyed and quickly said yes. The two were so glad that they were getting married. They planned everything out perfectly, and when the wedding day came, they were so nervous.
Caroline thought she wouldn't be able to do it after all, but Jerry reassured his soon-to-be wife, that it was alright. When it came time, Caroline walked down the wedding isle with her bouquet of flowers in her hands, and an excited smile on her face. The two made a passionate kiss and danced the night away.
After years together, the two grew closer and closer to each other with each passing day. They decided not to have children, and just live happily together. They soon grew old, and they were both sitting in their two favorite rocking chairs that sit on their back porch. Both of them held hands as they watched the sun set below the treeline, and as day vanished to night.

Though that is not what really happened. Jerry did not marry that woman, and he never even spoke to her that day. When he left his house, he quickly pulled out his phone. He walked down the sidewalk, focusing on the news on his phone.
The people who walked passed him weren't on their phones, instead they were enjoying the company of others. When Jerry had arrived at the crosswalk, the woman wearing the same brand of trench coat that headed towards him and walked straight past him, he said not a word to her. He let the woman that could have lived with him for the rest of his life, get away. He would never meet her again. She was like a snowflake. Something that was one of a kind. Something that could never be replaced.
That day, Jerry would walk to dinner with no one to talk to, and head straight home. For the next few weeks, he would not go out to dinner with anyone. He wouldn't be going out with anybody. In two years he would not get married, and he would not live happily ever after with a wife to love.
