Meeting The Tallico'sA Chapter by Emily_Alice
"Jason, Courtney, Steph, Pe-"
"It's Steeeeephanie! Get it right! Stephanie interrupts. "Fine; Stephanie, Peyton, James, Oooooowen, dinnnnner!" Mom shouts. "Oh yeah and Eden!" She adds a second later sighing. It's only 4:30 but we have dinner really early on Fridays because the girls are having cheerleading at 5:30 and all hell breaks loose if they don't have exactly half an hour to let their food digest. If they don't then we'd all be in trouble - actually lets be honest, they'd just blame me. I walk down the stairs and go into the dining room, I see that they've already started eating and didn't bother waiting for me. If anyone else was late they would've waited. Oh well, I'm used to it. Everyone's in deep conversation. Mom, Courtney, Stephanie and Peyton are talking about the new cheer schedule and how that going to work with the new athletics schedule. My Dad, home early for once, is talking to Jason, Owen and James about the latest football game on TV that was shown yesterday. Whilst I'm sat here doing nothing, I might as well tell you who's who in the Tallico Family. First there's Dad, he's a workaholic. He works six days a week for a massive company and apparently earns loads of money according to Mom and Jason. He is an ex-hockey player and used to be a coach for the New York Rangers. My Mom is an ex-cheerleader and is Brooklyn royalty, she was in all these beauty pageants and stuff in middle school. My parents met in high school, typical cliche jock meets popular girl blah blah blah. You get the picture. They then had seven children: Jason, he's about to be a senior and is currently quarterback on the football team, basketball captain and is one of the highest guys on honour roll. My older twin sisters, Courtney and Stephanie are going to be juniors. They are both captains of the cheerleading squad and running group. They also made honour roll and are part of the Student Council. Peyton is about to be in 6th Grade and she does cheerleading, running, singing and competes internationally in beauty pageants. My younger brothers, Owen and James are both going to be in 4th in Grade. Owen is exactly eleven months older then James so they're Irish Twins. This makes them 'extra cool and rad' to their classmates, no clue why... They both compete together in hockey, football and skateboarding. So where do I fit in? I'm about to be a freshman at Upper Brooklyn High School. And I couldn't be more terrified. I'm quite a shy and closed off person, I don't have any friends. I'm exactly the opposite to all of the Tallico's, which makes me an outsider. I feel forgotten all the time and the 'oh and her' child... "Edeeeeeen, Helloooooo." Courtney shouts in my face. The whole family is staring in my direction. I immediately start going red as usual. "Answer the question Eden." asks Dad impatiently. "What question?" I ask, millions of groans and eye rolls are thrown dramatically my way. "Oh my god. Don't you listen at all?" Peyton sighs shaking her head. "Peyton say gosh not God." Owen quips. "Don't tell me what to do pew wee." Peyton snaps. "Peyton do not call your brother a pee wee!" Mom orders. Stephanie laughs along with Courtney. "Everyone calls him that." "Yeah I don't mind." Owen agrees. "I give up. How's hockey going boys?" Mum asks. And just like that I'm forgotten. I silently bring my plate to the kitchen and go upstairs. Nobody notices. I close up on my self and curl up in a ball on my bed. Crying myself to a premature sleep feeling worthless and numb. Like always. © 2016 Emily_Alice |
