Intern(al) desireA Chapter by TessCarson sat in his sadness, drunk beyond compare and his assistant looked at him with anger and pity. “Mr. Jefferson” she started and he slammed his fist on the desk instantly regretting it. “not right now” Carso hissed at the young lady who frowned. “mo, your new intern is waiting and you WILL meet with him, this is a job Carson, get the f**k over what's his face and get it together, Mr. Sterling will be in shortly” “wait it’s a guy?” Carson looked up at the girl. “yes” she smiled and walked out. Carson dragged his hand through his mess of hair and fixed his suit, he didn't want to meet this new intern, he didn’t want to train him, or get to know him, or even see him, he had too much on his mind for this. “Pardon? Mr. Jefferson?” a slick country accent burned Carsons ears and he looked at the door, the man was wearing jeans and cowboy boots, cowboy boots! into his multimillionaire corporation, was he asking to be lynched. “and you are?” “Sterling, Harrison Sterling” this is his new intern? a country boy who wore a white dress shirt that wasn’t flattened nor was buttoned all the way up, a man no older than 24 , and none the less a man who wore jeans and dusty cowboy boots into THE Carsons Jeffersons’ office, was he stupid? no, he couldn’t be, Jefferson inc. had standards, he had to come from an IVY league school if he were here, or maybe Kate hired him just because he was cute, he was. it was a fact. He had tousled dirty blond hair and big green eyes with freckles dusting his tan skin. he was well built and not too short but not taller than Carson. “you’re my new intern?” Carson’s jaw slacked still in pure shock. “Yes'sir” the man nodded in respect only used by military personnel, trust Carson, he knew. “were you in the army?” Carson couldn’t help but ask. “No sir, my pa was” “that explains it” Harrison just nodded like he understood what Carson was talking about, “well have a seat” Carson gestured to the plush leather chair in front of him, Carson already hated the man, he had no sense of appropriation, all he knew was manners that’s why he got hired, Kate just thought Carson wanted someone to follow every order with a yes sir. well he did, but he wanted a smart human as well, someone who could help him out with work, not just getting him a new bagle. “Tell me about yourself.” Carson said sitting after Harrison had taken a seat and sat nicely with amazing posture. “well sir, there ain’t much to tell, i come from Kansas and i managed to impress Princeton and graduated from there bout a year ago, now ‘m just looking for a job in my field” “Princeton?” Carson was more than shocked; he was astonished, this bag of hay was in Princeton. “full ride sir” “majoring in what?” “Business and marketing along with a minor in human rights” “i’m impressed, but when i said to tell me about yourself i was talking more about personally, hobbies, family, maybe a girlfriend or a wife?” “oh no sir” Harrison cracked a small smiled that softened Carson’s hard demeanor slightly, only slightly, no way was Carson falling for this...this...thing, “my ma and pa are still at home down a little back road, my lil sis is hoping to come to the city over the summer but i don’t think they’ll let ‘er.” “why not?” “i’m the only one here and i don’t even have a job yet” “well you have one now” Carson commented without really thinking. “Really sir? you’ll keep a guy like me?” “what do you mean a guy like you, are you a child molester or a red head molester?” Carson tried out a joke and he didn’t really know why, all he needed was for this country boy to make him coffee. “oh lord no sir! i would never! that’d be disrespectful to any man or lady, i can’t even think of doin somethin like that” Harrison was blushing like mad and rambled on trying to clear the tense air he himself had put up, how had he been this awkward on the first day?, “i was talking more about, i guess that i’m not that experienced in business, i don’t think that i’ll be too much of help” “you’ll learn” Carson said and Harrison grinned. “thank you sir” “Carson” “Pardon?” Harrison cocked his head to the side. “The names Carson, you can call me Sir if you want but my name is Carson” “Yes’ sir” Harrison cleared his throat, “Carson...sir” Carson chuckled, “i take it you know how to make coffee?” “Yes’sir” Harrison said and got up and walked to the door leaving his jacket in the chair, he would be coming back to get it anyway. “can i call you Harris?” Carson asked, “harrison is too long” “you could call me Harry if ya wanted sir, but yes Harris is just fine with me.” “Harris will do just fine, my older brother was named Harry” “i’ll go get your coffee, any fixin’s?” “no, just black coffee” “the best way to have it” Harris commented and walked away leaving Carson feeling hollow. what was Carson doing? he should be finding a way to get Felix back but here he was about to bring up Harry to this no face country boy. he hated Mason, he took his place next to Felix. Carson shook his head and looked at his computer and tried to concentrate but he was stuck. “Sir?” Harris poked his head back into the office. “yes?” “There is a Skylar Kassmen asking to be buzzed up” “he’s my nephew, send him up” “yes sir, and here’s your coffee, and a bagel” Harris placed the two items next to Carson and went to buzz Sky up to Carson's office. “Carson i want to kill him!” Sky yelled marching into Carson's office. “who?” “Cole!” “the guy you made out with?” Carson was aware of Harris tensing standing behind Carson looking confused as all hell. “this is my brother's son Skylar, Skylar this is my new intern Harris” “Nice to meet you sir” Harris extended a hand to Sky who glanced at it and then at the man. “yea, hi” “Skylar! my brother did not raise a disrespectful a*s!” Carson snapped. “you’re right! your brother didn’t raise me at all! he left me with a crack w***e and took off with some of your millions!” “what are you even doing here!” “i don’t know! looking for someone to talk to!” “pardon me, i don’t know you but Mr. Jefferson has a lot of work to do so i can talk to you if ya want, i’ve been told i am quite the listener” Harrison attempted to cool the tension. “stay out of it” Sky snapped. “out of my office!” Carson yelled, “before i let him teach you how they handle disrespect down in Kansas” “what do they make you milk cows?” Sky scoffed. “once, when i talked back to pa i wasn't allowed in the house for three days and had to scoop all the manure” “we don't have manure” Sky deadpanned. “i will go buy a f*****g cow and feed it bran and have you clean it up for the rest of your life!” Carson snapped and for a millisecond Sky looked scared, he shook it off and flipped his uncle off stomping out. Carson lowered himself into the chair and sighed heavily. “sir, is there anything i can help with?” “care to lend an ear? i’ll pay you extra” Carson smiled sadly. “you don’t have to pay me anymore, ma always said to be nice and not expect anything in return, so Sir i will always lend an ear” Harris smiled. Maybe this country boy wasn’t too bad for this city man.
