Love and CandyA Poem by The Big ShebangFirst poem I ever wrote and performed at a poetry night. I haven't touched or tweaked it since.
From time to time my lips may form the shapes of,
I love you. Although that word makes your heart flitter and flutter, It's got some heaviness to it. It'll also have doubt, The hardest part is learning what that's all about. The checklist of requirements, Before the right of passage to using it. You must feel it, Don't minimize it. Give it power, Grow it as voluminous as they come. See it as a rose grows, And river flows. Make it corny, Make it a cliché. The smell of vanilla, The taste of creamy milk chocolate. Pink and yellow, A star scattered night. The dove of fertility, Don't limit this ability. These arn't hard demands to know the deffinition of love, And even yet...we fall short. So we stuff our pockets with candy bars from our local grocerie stores, Hoping we can get that milk chcocolate. But its taste is a bitter one, Making us feel like we're missing all the fun. It tastes of doubt and regret, A lost love or a lost bet. Left with the empty wrapper, With a bad after taste. I remember the first time I ever oppened up your wrapper, I smelt vanilla. I'm sorry, That I ever doubted you. © 2017 The Big ShebangAuthor's Note
